Smartphones Are On Their Way Out

According to Nokia CEO

Do you still remember the day you bought your first smartphone?

To be honest, I don’t remember. It could be about a decade this year, but even though I remember my pre-smartphone days, it seems like they’ve been around all the time.

In 1992, IBM invented the first mobile devices with “smart” features, but it was the first iPhone in 2007 that really brought about the change:

A modern day smartphone has more calculating capacity than all the computers at work during the Apollo 11 mission (the first space mission that put a person on the moon).

In total, there are almost 6.5 billion smartphones in use on the entire planet, meaning close to 84% of all people own one.

Nokia CEO Pekka Lundmark believes so.

He explained his views at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, earlier this year.

The current mobile communication standard is 5G. It simply stands for 5th generation mobile (aka wireless) network and connects virtually everything faster, more reliably and across different signal ranges.

By 2030, 6G will be ready for use, providing even more speed and greater capacity.

Smartphones will still be around then. Although gestures and voice commands will be the primary ways of using them, whereas typing will become less and less.
