A Master of Sabotage

A poem about battling your old self (365 Days of Poetry — Day 25)

You’re a master of sabotage

You whisper into my ear
and change the color of my mood

Your clever words cut through
any happiness I gather
You leave me in turmoil

Losing myself in your familiarity
I lose the grip of the new

My mind on the losing battle
winnings fade away

You seduce me back to
what I know
You bid me misery

I see you
You’ve been clever

But I’m becoming wiser.
