Weight Loss Truth

Yes, there is a Lie Fog surrounding the Science of Weight Loss

This will be a short trip into weight loss science. It is just actual data from my personal health log for sixteen years.

In 2006, I hit 215 lbs. (97.5 kg. 33 BMI). I had been given a free trip to New Zealand on one of those iron-man things. So I lost 40 lbs. (18 kg) out of sheer fear. This graph is my weight by date. You can see I lost the 40 lbs., went to New Zealand, gained a few, and went on past 40 to lose 60 lbs.

The New Zealand Trip was the beginning of 2007. Lost a total of 60 lbs that year. Leveled off in 2008.

Then I got scared again. So I started keeping records every day it was possible. Still keeping the daily records today in 2022.

This data shows that keeping weight under control is not easy for at least one person.

The best fit straight line shows I have averaged losing about 1 lb. (.5 kg) a year for those 14 last years. Slowly, slowly, getting better control of my weight.

And I’m still not like all you perfect people who never have a weight problem!

That is not my whole story, of course. Being a scientist, I couldn’t help myself those first six months of losing weight from reading all the decent scientific literature on weight loss science, and writing a book on the subject. It was how, everyday, I could understand what my body and brain was lying and telling me the truth about.

And, here is that book from 2008! I’ve kept up and nothing has appreciably…
