Our Healthcare workers 2.0

Hello everyone. I hope you all are staying healthy and safe. This is my second blog on MEDIUM. The first one was with the same name. So, I am going to talk about the current situation through this medium with you all.

I have seen that a few nurses have been protesting peacefully and in a well mannered way in front of the White House. And Iwelcome that move. I had written about the very same thing in my previous blog. The healthcare workers need to take a stand and come out in numbers against the poor management that we have been seeing for the past 2 months. The suicide of Lorna Breen (aged 49, a New York city ER doctor) has been a tragic incident. She worked in Columbia University Irving medical center and New York-Presbyterian hospital system. Her parents are both doctors. Her father, Philip Breen is a retired trauma surgeon and her mother is a doctor in the hospital at University of Virginia. Needless to say, she came from an intellectual family.

Her actions were a direct result of the stress that our healthcare workers (doctors, nurses, fire department, volunteers, etc….) feel on a daily basis. She had contracted Covid-19, then took leave for 10–12 days and then resumed work. Before contracting the virus she was putting in 17–18 hours of work and sometimes sleeping in the hospital corridors, like many others. After resuming work, she wasn’t as energetic as before, but still put in almost 10 and sometimes 12 hours of work. That took a toll on both her body as well as mind. She was then advised rest and so she went back home. She went to Virginia where most of her family is based and there, after a brief stay in the hospital, where she was admitted due to exhaustion, she went to stay with her mom. The tragedy occurred on the weekend when she went to stay with her sister. She succumbed to self-inflicted injuries.

All in all, this was a result of the high stress levels that our healthcare workers are facing in this situation. And this situation is being fueled by the irresponsible behaviour of the majority of people around the nation. After 1.2 million cases and more than 72,000 deaths in the last 2 months, many still believe that all this is a hoax. That this is media falsifying the information, that it is a conspiracy of the democrats. To all those I say, you are the direct cause for the current state of affairs as they stand in this nation. If this was all a fraud, if the numbers are a lie, then there is no reason for our healthcare workers to slog as they are currently doing. The…
